Message from the Bear Branch Trail Association Board of Directors ...

Subject: Important Safety Reminder: No Motorized Vehicles on the Greenbelt — Including GIO Vehicles

Dear Community Members,

We want to issue an important reminder that motorized vehicles are not permitted on the greenbelt at any time. This restriction applies to battery-powered electric and gas-powered scooters, bicycles, golf carts, and GIO vehicles, which have recently been involved in several reported near misses with pedestrians.

The greenbelt is a shared public space designed for walking, cycling, and other non-motorized recreational activities. Our bylaws state, “All motor vehicles, including motorized scooters, except for maintenance vehicles or those specifically authorized, are not allowed on greenbelt property.”

Battery-powered motorized scooters, bicycles, golf carts, and GIO vehicles are capable of higher speeds and are quiet. Such vehicles overtake pedestrians rapidly without sufficient notice. Introducing motorized traffic—especially at higher speeds—creates dangerous conditions for everyone, particularly children, seniors, dog walkers, and individuals with limited mobility.

While GIO vehicles may seem compact and quiet, they are still motorized vehicles and not allowed on the trail system. Wider GIO vehicles and golf carts do not provide sufficient clearance for other trail users to pass safely. Their presence significantly increases the risk of accidents, especially in areas with blind corners or high pedestrian traffic.

Please help keep the greenbelt safe by:
  • Not operating or allowing the use of a motorized vehicle on the trail
  • Reminding friends and family of the rules
  • Report violations or unsafe behavior to Kingwood Association Management (281) 359-1102

We all share the responsibility of keeping this space peaceful, enjoyable, and safe for everyone. Thank you for doing your part to preserve this special community space.
